Bubble Letter M – How to Draw Your Bubble M. M is the 13th letter of the alphabet, but that doesn’t mean it’s unlucky! It’s one we use a lot every day, and it’s a fun thing to write. Making an M sound is also pretty easy, which is why it’s one of the first noises many people will make as babies.
The letter M is easy to write, but how about we create a bubble with the letter M? That’s what we’re here to learn in this guide, as we’ll show you how to make a really fun version of this card. We’ll also cover some fun ways to colour it and take it to the next level. We hope you’re ready to go as we embark on the first of 7 steps that will show you how to create this fun drawing!

Step 1
Writing M is leisurely, but turning it into a bubble letter gets harder. That’s why we’ll break it down into smaller steps to make it more manageable. For now, we’ll start with the arch on the left side of the letter. To remove this, we’ll draw a curved line. Our reference image will show you what it should look like, but it’s pretty simple.
Since the letter M has so many angles, we recommend drawing a guide. To do this, take a pencil and lightly draw a normal note M which is the size you like this drawing to be. Then you can draw the lines from this guide around that M pencil. When it’s ready, we can start with step 2 of this guide!
Step 2
Next, we’ll draw the left side of the letter M. This side will extend down from the top of the arc you drew in the first step. It will take a vertical and straight shape. We will make the line curved to create the bubble effect we seek. Once drawn, it peeks like a slightly flared paper clip.
Please follow the reference image we provide as closely as possible, as it may be difficult to visualize now. We can then move on to step 3 to continue with this design.
Step 3
The bubble letter M begins to take shape with the next line! You’ll see where this design is headed if you take our suggestion of drawing the M with a pencil. In this third step, we will keep things nice and easy again. All you need to do now is count a simple, slightly curved line.
This curved line will rise down and out from the inner center point of the body you drew in the first two steps. The contact image will show you where to place this line. That’s all there is to this bubble letter M step, so we can move on to step 4 of the guide.
Step 4
Step 4 will directly continue the line you started in the previous step. We recommend doing the following line in two strokes. For the first stroke, carefully extend the line you drew in the last step upward in a smooth curve. You can lift your pen off the page as we prepare for the next stroke.
The next one will start at the top of the line and then down another gentle slope. It will have a little curve to the request, as shown in our reference image. In the next step, we’ll finish up the full outline of this M before we add some final details, so we’ll do that when you’re happy with how these lines look.
Step 5
As we mentioned in the previous step, we will finish the outline of this letter. That means we’ll draw a lot in this step but go slowly. For the next line, we recommend starting in the depression in the center of the M you drew in a previous step. This new line will go up without problems. At the top, it will gradually curve downward, creating a mirror image of the left side of the image. It will then continue until it makes a curve at the base.
The line will meet the other stripe at the base where that one ended, leaving you with a complete M shape. We’ll add more details, but you can see the final shape! If you chose to draw the M in pencil earlier, you could erase these lines now, as they won’t be needed. The next step will be to add some facts to make this design look like a bubble so that we won’t need the foci anymore. With all that said, let’s get started on the final details!
Step 6
Your letter M looks great so far, but now it looks flat on the page. This guide is all about creating a bubble letter M, and we’ll do it with a few simple details. First, we’ll use some round shapes to reflect light off the letter. These will go on the two highest points of the design. You can place them anywhere else on the M but try to keep them on the same side to keep the light source even. Finally, we will give the balloon a little volume with curved lines. We recommend using a drawing tool with a thinner tip than the one you’ve used to draw these lines.
These will go on the edges of the inner outline of the M and will help make it look less flat and have more volume. Once these lines are added, you’re ready to add some colour! However, you don’t have to move on just yet. There are other ways to finish this design. One would be to draw some fun patterns and shapes on the letter. For example, the letter could be covered in spots or stars! You can get creative with this, and we’ll also go over some ideas you can try after the final step.
Step 7
You’ve made it to the final step of a slightly trickier letter to draw, and now you’re ready to have some fun with colours! The best part is that now you can display any of your favourite colours. We’ll stick to the colours we used in our example for now, but you can use whatever you want. We used a light orange scheme to keep the drawing nice and warm.
The colours are darker the further they are from the two points of light. We use lighter shades to create the light reflection effect closer to these points. We chose these colours, but now you can choose any colour you want! You don’t need to stick to just one colour; you could turn this M into a rainbow of colours.
